The Story Behind Haley and Comfy Chair Guy

This Veterans Day, we shared the story of Haley and Eric Benjamin, aka “Comfy Chair Guy.”

Eric is the general manager of the EquipmentShare branch in Louisville, Ky., and Haley is the daughter of EquipmentShare Delivery Driver Jay Sadler. She stops by the branch on the occasional Friday to have lunch with her dad before the weekend. Through these visits, she has found a friend in Eric and a very comfy chair to claim any time she is in the office. When she was given the opportunity to honor a veteran for extra credit at school, she chose Comfy Chair Guy.

Eric is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served for nearly 12 years before joining the EquipmentShare team. The fact that Haley chose to write about him and gift him a handmade card and cup in honor of Veterans Day meant the world to Eric.

“It is hard to say what a veteran is going through, what is going through their head,” Eric said. “The key is that unsolicited gesture, that more-than-a-thank-you… It’ll choke you up.”

Throughout the week of November 9 through 13, EquipmentShare, along with the support of employees and friends, raised a total of $20,000 to donate to two veteran organizations: Hire Heroes USA and Welcome Home. These organizations provide aid and support for veterans experiencing many of the situations Eric explained in the video, including homelessness and unemployment.

EquipmentShare Honors Veterans with Employment Pledge

On November 13, EquipmentShare announced its pledge to increase veteran employment by 50% over the next two years.

Today, veterans make up about 10% of our workforce. With this pledge, we plan to increase the number of veteran employees to 15%, or 300 veterans. To ensure we reach this goal by 2022, we commit to participating in military-focused job fairs and will review all job applications that indicate military service, in addition to partnering with Hire Heroes USA to support efforts to transition more service members to civilian work.

“It’s a privilege and honor to have veterans be a part of our team, and we’re humbled to be able to work alongside them,” CEO Jabbok Schlacks said. “EquipmentShare has always hired veterans and service members, but with today’s announcement, we are making it a commitment for the long-term.”

EquipmentShare Track Updates of the Month

The EquipmentShare Track developers and engineers are continuously innovating the platform to better serve our customers and help contractors work smarter. New updates are released weekly! That is why we have asked EquipmentShare Track Product Owner Angela Page and Business Analyst Bre Hylton to highlight the most important product updates shared last month, just in case you missed them.

Product Update #1: Real-Time Fleet Management Dashboard Now Available in EquipmentShare Track

Why is it important? The new Fleet Management Dashboard in EquipmentShare Track provides Managers and Owners with a current snapshot view of essential fleet operations and utilization data. This function allows you to stay on top of key information to better understand your fleet’s run time, upcoming or existing service, out of lock devices, and assets within Geofences – all in one place! Each tile on the new dashboard provides a quick view of data and can be clicked to learn more!

How can I use this now? The new Fleet Management Dashboard is available under the Reports dashboard by searching “Analytics.” You can also download the visual into a PDF or CSV and easily schedule the fleet dashboard to be delivered to your email. The filter along the top ensures you can pinpoint to view only the data you need to review.

Product Update #2: Threshold Alerts Now Available in the New Alert Management System in EquipmentShare Track

Why is it important? The Additional alerts now available in the Alert Management feature will allow users to set Threshold alerts for their assets and receive the notification via email or SMS text. Threshold alerts are essential when staying on top of an asset engine’s health, and now with the new Alert Management System, a Manager or Owner-level role can quickly configure threshold alerts for All Assets, Asset IDs, Asset Types, or Groups across their fleet.

The available Threshold Alerts include: Average Fuel Economy, Battery State of Charge, Battery Voltage, Bluetooth Low Battery, Coolant Level, Coolant Temperature, Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Level, Diesel Particulate Filter Regen Status, Fuel Level, Oil Pressure, Oil Temperature, Speed.

How can I use this now? From EquipmentShare Track, select “Company” from the left menu and select “Alerts” (across the top). Any existing alert rules will display. To add a new Alert, select “Create New Rule.” Complete all the fields on the Add Alert Rule form and click “Save.”
