Green building is here to stay

In fact, Dodge Data & Analytics found almost half of the 2,000 surveyed contractors expect most projects to be “green” in the next three years.
That’s not just here in the states. Sustainability has gone global: The International Code Council (ICC) voted to include high-rises made out of timber in the 2021 International Building Code. Timber is a sustainable alternative to steel and concrete that stores carbon instead of expending it. Earlier this month, the International Green Construction Code (IgCC) was released, and in some cases, the code allows builders that use IgCC standards to earn LEED certifications.

Green Globes Certification accessors use a 1,000-point scale to determine the building’s rating and score. Buildings need a score of 35% or higher to earn a Green Globes rating.
Certification isn’t essential to your green building project, but it can be beneficial when it comes to attracting customers and to your bottom line. Green-certified buildings and projects show clients that you do your homework when it comes to new ways of getting work done. Earning some certifications might make your business eligible for tax credits, so talk to your CPA about available deductions.
With the increasing demand for sustainable buildings and the financial benefits that can come with it, green building practices are a surefire way to stay relevant and competitive.

How much of your materials supply is local? Sourcing local materials means faster delivery and lower delivery costs with the added benefit of supporting the surrounding community. By purchasing and using local supplies, you can experience faster delivery times to your site and even network with other business owners. Additionally, you can reduce resources that are expended to deliver those materials from further away.
